Vision

As Mayor, Bert H. Steinmann is committed to fostering equitable treatment and inclusivity for the increasingly diverse community of Ewing. Mayor Steinmann envisions a township where the rich diversity of its residents is reflected in its workforce, businesses, and government. He strives to create an environment where every member of the community feels valued and represented, and where opportunities for growth and participation are accessible to all. Mayor Steinmann is dedicated to enhancing community services, supporting programming for youth, and promoting initiatives that celebrate and uplift the unique contributions of every Ewing resident. Through collaboration and proactive leadership, Mayor Steinmann aims to build a more inclusive, vibrant, and prosperous Ewing Township for current and future generations.

Responsibilities

The Mayor is elected to a four-year term.  He serves as  the chief  executive responsible for the operation of Ewing's municipal  government. 

  • He ensures that the Charter and ordinances of the Township and all general laws are faithfully executed.
  • He supervises, directs and controls all departments of the Township government.
  • He prepares the Township operating and capital budget.
  • He appoints the directors of each department with the advice and consent of the Council. 
  • He supervises the care and custody of all municipal property, institutions and agencies and make recommendations concerning the nature and location of Township improvements and execute improvements determined by the Township Council.
  • He negotiates contracts for the municipality, subject to Council approval.
  • The Mayor serves on the following Township Boards/Committees:
    Cannabis Advisory Committee | Municipal Alliance | Patriotic Committee | Planning Board

Accomplishments

Mayor Bert H. Steinmann has spearheaded numerous successful initiatives to enhance the quality of life in Ewing Township. Some of the key accomplishments include:

  • Public Safety Enhancements
    Firefighter Recruitment: Successfully added seven new firefighter recruits, reflecting the township's diversity and bolstering its emergency response capabilities.
  • Environmental and Public Works Improvements
    Leaf Pickup Service Upgrade: Proposed and implemented a truck mounted leaf vacuum system to streamline leaf collection, making the process more efficient and environmentally friendly. This new system helps comply with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's stormwater management rules.
  • Community Development and Infrastructure
    New Digital Signage: Facilitated the installation of new digital signage at the Pennington Road Fire Station and Ewing Township Municipal Building, enhancing communication and information dissemination to residents.
  • Technology and Accessibility Investments:
    ARPA Fund Utilization: Secured $164,000 from Mercer County through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to purchase new computers, an audio-visual system, a projector, a smartboard, and new picnic tables and benches. This equipment aims to improve technological, health, and educational services for seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.
Wedding Ceremonies
