Things to do

Ewing Township sponsors numerous special events for you and your family throughout the year all of which are designed to bring our community together. Events are held at various locations around Ewing; the Ewing Senior and Community Center, TCNJ, Green Lane Fields.  Check out events below or check our website Calendar.

Independence Day Fireworks

Ewing has a long history of celebrating Independence Day with spectacular displays of fireworks.  Held annually at the TCNJ Soccer Fields on Green Lane, the family friendly event, organized by the Ewing Patriotic Committee, brings residents from Ewing and around the County together for food, entertainment, games, music, rides and of course, culminates in a spectacular display of fireworks at dusk.

National Night Out

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual celebration of community held by police departments across the country.  It is held on the first Tuesday night in August. It began originally as an event where you would turn on your front porch light and sit outside to prevent crime. Today it has evolved into block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police, festivals, neighborhood walks, safety fairs, contests, rallies, and meetings nationwide. In Ewing, the Police have hosted the event in recent years at the Ewing Senior and Community Center at 999 Lower Ferry Road and includes food, music, fire trucks, representatives from local community groups and more.

Community Fest

Community Fest is an annual community celebration hosted by Ewing Township and The College of New Jersey in early fall.  Held on the TCNJ campus, the free event provides a day of fun, music, a KidZone, and a diverse array of crafts and goods just in time for your holiday shopping.  Kick off the day with the Ewing Green Team's annual bike ride around town, the Ewing Fall Spin.  Then check out the crafts, vendors and local and community groups, the Community Fest Village is easily accessible from all parking lots. You can also meet representatives from the area's non-profit and civic organizations, where you will learn what a difference they make in our communities and find out how you can, too.  For more information go to our Community Fest webpage  or another maintained by TCNJ.

Trunk or Treat

A "safe alternative" to trick-or-treating, Ewing’s Trunk or Treat event is usually held the weekend before Halloween.  The brainchild of the Ewing Arts Commission, and co-sponsored by the Ewing Township Recreation Department, Ewing children -- and only Ewing kids, from tiny tots up through eighth grade -- are invited to gather there and go from car to car, collecting treats.  Treats are distributed by Ewing parents and other adults from their decorated car trunks loaded with candy.  (Pre-registration for all participating vehicles is required.)  All candy must be pre-packaged.  Art and school supplies are also recommended as good alternative treats.

The event is held in the parking lot at the Ewing Senior & Community Center, 999 Lower Ferry Road.  Look for information about the event in early Fall.

Scarecrow Events

Ewing Township hosts a month-long celebration of fall with the Ewing Green Team's  All-Around Town Scavenger Hunt.  "Hunt" scarecrows are created and hosted by local residents, businesses, and organizations and Township  families, groups, and workers track them down during the month of October for a chance to earn cash.  The Hunt runs from October 1st through the last Thursday of the month.  Winners are announced at the Trunk or Treat event, usually held the last Saturday afternoon in October.

Holiday Tree Lighting

The Annual Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony provides Township kids of all ages the opportunity to meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The event features live music, entertainment and refreshments.    Hosted by the Ewing Patriotic Committee and the Township Recreation Department, it is held at the Ewing Senior & Community Center, 999 Lower Ferry Road.
