The Board of Condemnation was established in 1998 to investigate complaints concerning unfit dwellings/buildings in Ewing Township. The Board has the authority under of Ewing Ordinance Chapter 161, “Dwellings, Unfit” to designate any dwelling, dwelling unit, commercial or industrial structure as a building constituting a menace to public safety.
The Board investigates complaints, conducts hearings to determine if violations exist and sets plans for abatement of violations. Complaints are served on the owner of the premises in question who will have the opportunity to be heard before the board. The Board works with the owners to ensure that properties are remediated and complaints satisfied as required. It has the power to condemn properties which are not remediated within the specified time frame.
The Board consists of seven residents of the Township, who are appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Township Council. Members are appointed for five year terms.
