Come Lend a Hand at the 7th Annual Delaware River Cleanup

Saturday, September 21st from 8:30 – 11:30 am

Delaware River Cleanup 2021In an effort to help clean up the Delaware River, the Delaware River Greenway Partnership, the NJ Clean Communities programs, New Jersey State Parks, and a cadre of dedicated volunteers are once again joining hands to help tackle the litter along the banks of our Wild and Scenic Delaware River.  The 7th Annual Delaware River Clean-up has been scheduled for the morning of Saturday, September 21st from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

The Ewing Department of Public Works is leading the charge at the Scudder Falls location and this year clean-up efforts are expanding even further northward to include areas from the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area in Sussex County.  Clean up locations will extend to the southern Abbott Marshlands in Mercer County. All clean-up locations will be by land, except for on-boat cleanup option hosted by PA Delaware Canal State Park. Please explore the interactive map on the Delaware River Greenway Partnership Cleanup webpage to find the area that is right for you.

In 2020 the Delaware was named “River of the Year” by the environmental advocacy group American Rivers due to the improvements made in river health and cleanliness. [1]  American Rivers also credits the dedicated efforts of volunteers over the past decades.

“Key to this success are the countless local individuals and groups who have worked for decades on the river’s behalf. The progress on the Delaware illustrates the power of partnership and collaboration.”[2]

The river is cleaner than it has been for decades, and our volunteers are working to keep it that way.

"Protecting our natural resources is a responsibility we all share," said Ewing Mayor Bert H. Steinmann. "The Delaware River is not only a vital waterway but also a treasure for our community. I'm proud to support the efforts of the Delaware River Greenway Partnership, NJ Clean Communities, and the many volunteers who are dedicating their time to keep our river clean and beautiful."

PRE-REGISTRATION is required by clicking on one of the locations on the cleanup webpage.  Additional information about each site will be provided along with the required waiver form.  Individuals, families, and groups are all encouraged to join. Cleanup supplies and a “Thank You” River Cleanup T-shirt will be provided to volunteers.
