Trenton Water Works Update Fall 2023

We share this update from Trenton Water Works (TWW) which summarizes what they are doing to improve water quality including (Legionella mitigation), strengthen operations, advance capital projects, and comply with ever-changing state and federal regulatory requirements.

tww2Legionella Mitigation
TWW continues to execute its Low-Velocity Water Main Flushing Program to maintain a target chlorine residual of 1.0 mg/L throughout the water distribution system. Personnel are taking water samples at low-flowing fire hydrants and non-flushing locations to trend chlorine residuals, data that will inform the water utility's multifaceted water main flushing plans in the months ahead. In July, service-area residents were notified by TWW about open and low-flowing fire hydrants by direct mail and door hangers. TWW will pause the program in the weeks ahead as temperatures drop.

Smart Meters
TWW will install remotely-read intelligent meters starting in the fall 2023 beginning in West Trenton and Hopewell Township. This is a $20-million project which will improve billing data collection and meter-reading efficiency. Customers will receive communications regarding the Smart Meter Project in November.

Pennington Avenue Reservoir Replacement Project
TWW plans to take the reservoir out of service during Phase 3 of a project to decentralize water storage, which will involve the construction of multi-million-gallon tanks in Trenton, Ewing Township, and Hamilton Township. Phases 1 and 2, a $90 million capital project, are underway. TWW is preparing the site at 942 Prospect Street in Trenton to construct two 8-million-gallon tanks in 2024. You should look to learn more about the project through a direct mailing and H2Open Forums.

Billing
TWW is transitioning to a new bill-run vendor. Billing for customers in Ewing Township will arrive late, but customers will not be penalized as TWW does not charge a late fee and only initiates collections on accounts 60 days or more past due. Customers can inquire about their bills by phone at 1-866-TWW BLUE, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. TWW is closed on municipal and federal holidays.

H2Open "Let's Talk About Water" Forums
TWW resumed its town hall-style forums starting in Hopewell Township this past Wednesday (October 4th) at Stony Brook Elementary School in Pennington. The meetings will allow service-area residents to learn about and ask TWW leadership questions about water quality, capital projects, operations, and more. TWW will hold the next forum in Trenton at City and Hall, followed by Hamilton Township, Lawrence Township, and Ewing Township. Call TWW's Office of Communications and Community Relations at (609) 989-3033 to learn more. An H2Open Forum pamphlet (Document No. OCCR-49) is attached.
