The recent revelations about Trenton Water Works (TWW) failing to meet critical water monitoring obligations for over a year are deeply concerning and entirely unacceptable.
The health and safety of our residents must never be compromised, and this latest failure underscores a persistent inability of TWW to uphold its responsibilities.
While TWW claims there is no immediate public health risk, I share the frustration and mistrust felt by many Ewing residents and our neighboring communities. Falsified data and inadequate testing for contaminants erode public confidence and raise serious questions about the utility's ability to provide safe, reliable drinking water.
Ewing Township demands transparency, accountability, and swift corrective actions from TWW and oversight agencies. These measures must ensure that such lapses never happen again. Strengthening oversight and installing tracking measures, while steps in the right direction, are not enough to restore trust.
We are urging the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to increase its regulatory scrutiny and to provide clear, ongoing communication about TWW’s compliance and improvements. Additionally, Ewing Township will advocate for emergency measures to support residents with specific health concerns and for more robust long-term reforms in TWW’s operations.
Our residents deserve better, and we will continue to fight for the safety and quality of Ewing’s water supply. Anyone with concerns or questions about their water quality is encouraged to reach out to TWW or consult their healthcare provider. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Additionally, on behalf of our residents and businesses, Ewing Township, along with Lawrence and Hamilton townships, has intervened in the lawsuit brought by DEP against Trenton Water Works and will continue to use the litigation to ensure transparency and accountability in the operation of our area’s water system.
