Trenton Water Works Updates

Summary of two recent TWW customer updates

tww2Director Sean Semple's Year in Review has recently been mailed to customers highlighting steps taken to maintain high water quality, improve operations, and advance capital projects to benefit customers.  These steps are being taken through the assistance of their partnership with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and a Unilateral Administrative Order executed by Mayor W. Reed Gusciora.

Recent Highlights

  • TWW recently completed their transition to a new vendor responsible for mailing their bill runs to their valued customers. Customers who receive a late bill, including Trenton, Hamilton Township, and Ewing Township, have 90 days to pay and will not be penalized.
  • On December 14, customers received a public notice in their mailboxes regarding a Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM) Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) exceedance at one of nine of their sampling locations from July 1 to September 30, 2021. State regulators require them to send this notice annually until their remediation efforts are complete. TWW's water currently meets all New Jersey Safe Drinking Water Act standards.
  • This spring, they will resume their outreach to service-area consumers through their H2Open(Let's Talk About Water) community forums, which allow residents to engage their leadership team about water utility operations, capital work, and water quality.

TWW To Install Distribution System Flushing Assemblies to Maintain High Water Quality

Beginning January 2nd Trenton Water Works (TWW) will install approximately 170 water main flushing assemblies on dead end streets  in specific areas of its 683-mile water distribution system in Ewing, Hamilton, Hopewell, and Lawrence.  The purpose of this project is to strengthen its system management and maintain high water quality, including adequate chlorine levels for disinfection. You should have received the public notice (Document No. OCCR-88) which was recently mailed to customers.

The flushing assemblies will enable water utility personnel to flush water mains of aged water and sediment at dead-end water mains, improving overall water quality. Once TWW contract vendor Dewcon, Inc. installs all the assemblies, TWW will integrate their operation into a multifaceted distribution system flushing plan executed annually and as needed to maintain high water quality and adequate chlorine levels for disinfection. This critical work is part of TWW's Legionella mitigation.

An alphabetized list of the installation locations by municipality follows. **Some locations may change without notice. Customers will not be without water during the installations. However, some customers in installation work areas may see brown water at the tap when Dewcon personnel test the assemblies by discharging water from water mains. TWW recommends running a cold water tap for approximately 15 minutes or until the water runs clear. Do not do laundry if you see brown water. Drain and refill your water heater according to the manufacturer's instructions. Ensure your water heater's temperature is set at or above 120°F to minimize the growth of bacteria, such as Legionella.
