Invasive Species: Why Should We Care?

A Ewing Green Team event with guest presenter Mike Van Clef

Invasive Species Mike Van Clef 2023 smallAutumn is a great time to get back out in the garden now that the worst of the summer heat has passed. And it's a great time to learn more about critical garden maintenance topics.  Invasive species are one such important topic.  What exactly are invasive species? Do I have them in my home landscape? And why is it so important that they be eradicated? These are questions that will be answered during an informative presentation at the Ewing Green Team’s  October meeting on October 25th

The Ewing Green Team is delighted to announce that Mike Van Clef, the Stewardship Director of the Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space and the Program Director of the New Jersey Invasive Species Strike Team, will present an overview and discussion of the problems that invasives cause in the ecosystem and their impacts in natural areas. Ways of identifying and controlling invasive species will also be covered, including using the Strike Team phone app to record and store data.  Creation of stewardship plans designed to most effectively and efficiently treat invasive species to protect biodiversity will also be discussed. The FoHVOS Invasive Species Strike Team is most known for their work in eradicating invasive species for the protection and conservation of rare species, including plants and wildlife.
