Rabies Information Alert on June 21st, 2023

A racoon has tested positive for the Rabies Virus in Ewing Township. All residents are advised not to approach wildlife and to report wildlife which are behaving oddly to Animal Control or the Police Imemdiately.

Ewing Township Animal Control received a call on 06/18/2023 from a resident about a raccoon in the area of Locke Court. The raccoon was acting strangely and approached a dog. The raccoon got into an altercation with the dog and the racoon did not survive. The raccoon was then submitted for rabies testing. The raccoon has since tested positive for rabies. All residents are advised not to approach wildlife and to report wildlife which are behaving oddly to Animal Control or the Police immediately. Residents are advised to always watch their pets when they in their backyards and to not leave them alone, keep all pets leashed at all times when not on their own property and to bring all free roaming cats indoors. Residents should ensure their cats and dogs are up-to-date with rabies vaccination. Any recent human or pet exposures to animals in this area must be reported to Animal Control immediately by calling 609-883-2900 x7175. Rabies is a fatal but preventable viral disease.
