Ewing Green Team Presents Donation to Mercer Street Friends

Proceeds from Ewing’s Community Bike Ride to address issues of poverty in local communities.

The 7th Annual Ewing Fall Spin officially concluded at the December 13, 2022 Ewing Council Meeting with the presentation of the event proceeds to the Mercer Street Friends, this year’s ride beneficiary.  A check in the amount of $1085 was presented by Green Team Chair Joanne Mullowney to Mercer Street Friends Chief Development and Marketing Officer Courtney Matlock.  Ms Mullowney commented that it was great to be back as the kickoff event to the annual Community Fest event at The College of New Jersey and that the day was a gorgeous day for a ride.  Many of the same participants take part in the event every year so the event has built up a dedicated community of riders.  It was a wonderful and memorable community event.  In addition, the ride earned nearly $1100 for Mercer Street Friends, an impressive donation from ride proceeds.

The ride is run by the Ewing Green Team‘s Bike Advocacy Group, a contingent of citizen volunteers interested in promoting healthy lifestyles, a more bikeable Ewing, and raising awareness of bike safety,  in conjunction with the Ewing Recreation Department.  The Committee has headed by Green Team member Garry Keel and additional volunteers included: Steve Czelusniak, Bob Kirby, Joe Mirabella, Pete Boughton, Joanne Mullowney, Caroline Steward, and Patrice Coleman-Boatright.  Recreation Director Ted Forst served as the liaison betweent the committee and Township Administration.

The event returned to take its place as a kickoff event for Community Fest as a large contingent of biking enthusiasts were sent off early that Saturday morning by Mayor Bert Steinmann from Campus Town to travel throughout the community for approximately 11 miles.

The Ewing Green Team is delighted to be able to support the good works of Mercer Street Friends a local non-profit which works to offer resources for children, families, and communities to overcome poverty and its lasting effects.
