Councilman Baxter

Biography

Kevin Baxter is serving his second term on Ewing Council.  He initially filled a vacancy upon selection by the Ewing Township Democratic Committee and was elected to a four year term in 2016.

A resident of Ewing for over 43 years, Kevin is the youngest son of Everett and Vivian Baxter. He and his lovely wife Ashanti have been married for over fourteen years.

Kevin's passion throughout his life has been community.  Even before becoming a Councilman, he was vitally concerned with the viability of Ewing neighborhoods and service to our community.

Kevin attended Howard University after graduating high school, but due to health issues (he has Sickle Cell Anemia) was forced to return home before completing his degree. Being a strong proponent of education and possessing a can do attitude, he received his Bachelors degree from Strayer University in the spring of 2008 with honors.

Kevin is retired from the Department of Corrections where, while working as a Corrections Officer, he took the Methods of Instructions training course that certified him to train other officers.

Kevin is a role model and advocate for those with Sickle Cell Disease. He serves on the board of the Sickle Cell Association of New Jersey. He is also a certified Master trainer through Stanford University’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. Through this certification he leads peer leader trainings as well as seminars for those affected with chronic illness. Kevin recently received the Dr. Charles F. Whitten award for Sickle Cell Disease advocacy.

Kevin is a true Man of God. He and his wife are devoted members of Kingdom Church in Ewing Township. He serves faithfully on the parking lot ministry and is a trusted member of the Men’s Leadership Council. Kevin also helped to oversee the first tee program at Kingdom Church. This program introduced the youth of Kingdom Church to the sport of Golf. Kevin has also volunteered at Kingdoms “Push the Rock” basketball camp.

Always one to serve his community and others, Kevin recently received a certificate of helping out.  Kevin is a member of Toastmasters International, and the Vice-President of the Howard University Alumni Association of Metropolitan Trenton.  He also serves as the Town Gown Coordinator.

Vision

Kevin’s decision to serve on Council was participation in the public process, enhancing neighborhood cohesiveness, successful schools, and promoting community relations with local government. Kevin’s mantra is “I am not a politician, but a public servant”.
