Memorial Donations

Applications can be completed using the online or paper application forms above. 

Payments must be made prior to the expenditures of any funds to purchase the tree or bench and once a decision has been finalized about the tree or bench particulars.

Pay by Credit Card:

You may pay with your credit card via Municipay.

Pay by check or money order:

Drop off the paper application and a check or money order, payable to “Ewing Township”, to the Ewing Recreation Department, located at 320 Hollowbrook Drive, Ewing, NJ 08638.

Intake Periods

There are two application intakes each year to coincide with optimal planting times.  Applications are accepted year-round, but will be processed as outlined below:

• Spring Planting – April 1st of each year
• Fall Planting – September 1st of each year

We have numerous scenic parks and facilities where your donated tree or bench can find a home and be well looked after. As not all of our parks or open spaces may be suitable for dedicated planting or bench placement, our staff will be happy to assist you in determining the right location for placement.

The bench or tree must not interfere with general maintenance and use of the park. Buying a tree or a bench does not entitle the participant to any right to priority use of the bench or tree. Commemorative trees and benches become the property of the Township. The Township has the final determination for approving a new installation.

Every attempt will be made to notify the applicant if circumstances arise that require the tree or bench to be relocated. The Township has the final determination to proceed with or without notification.

All trees will be planted by Ewing's Department of Public Works. Timing is a crucial factor in the success of a tree planting.  Trees will only be planted in early spring or during the fall when there is a greater chance of adequate moisture to assure successful planting.  Weather, grower supply, parks maintenance / construction, and special event situations may all be contributing factors in a possible lack of specificity in installation times and dates.  The Township has the final determination when scheduling a planting or bench installation time.

Applicants may note on their application if they wish to be present at the installation. Township staff will coordinate with the applicant to select a date and location to offer an opportunity for the donor to be present during the planting.  Trees may not be planted in Ewing open spaces or public parks without prior permission from the Parks Department!

Donations may be marked by a plaque; however, they must be provided by the donor.  Plaques can be ordered from any place that makes monuments at the donor's expense.

Note:  Plaques are typically placed between April and December so there is no damage to the tree roots.

Completion of these requests are weather dependent.   Memorials cannot be placed when the ground is frozen. 

Commemorative Trees

Commemorative trees are guaranteed for up to three (3) years of the original planting date, or subsequent replanting date if required. The tree will be replaced or repaired if vandalized within two (2) years of planting.

In the event that the tree should die, become diseased or vandalized, the Memorialized Tree will be replaced by the Township, at no charge to the applicant, within two years of the original planting date.

Commemorative Benches

The maintenance of the bench will be the responsibility of the Township. The Township holds the right to remove the bench if it becomes unsafe or unsightly.
