March for Meals with Meals on Wheels 2021

Month-long awareness campaign to celebrate the power of Meals on Wheels to change lives and increase support for America’s seniors amid challenging times

Meals on Wheels Seniors Every March Meals on Wheels dedicates the month to raising awareness and support for the plight of senior hunger and isolation by marking March for Meals.   This year, as the organization is not able to host their traditional Dine Out Event in partnership with local restaurants, they will instead by host of “feast” of Food Flick Wednesdays beginning at 7 pm with the following movies:

  • Wednesday, March 10, 2021 Cook-Off
  • Wednesday, March 17, 2021 Uncorked
  • Wednesday, March 24, 2021 East Side Sushi
  • Wednesday, March 28, 2021 Chef

[Food Flick Wednesdays will take place through Teleparty (formerly Netflix Party).]

About Meals on Wheels of Mercer County

Meals on Wheels of Mercer County (MOWMC) is a comprehensive nutrition program for the seniors of Mercer County, providing nutritious meals and related services.   Their goal is to assist participants, who wish to remain in their homes, maintain independence, dignity, health, and well-being.  The program generally serves homebound seniors who are over 60 in 8 municipalities throughout the County.  Sixty percent of those they serve live alone, and 82% receive subsidized meals. In 2020, they served close to 105,000 meals to homebound seniors!

MOWMC also serves a growing population of individuals under 60, who find themselves unable to cook or shop due to the onset of a debilitating disease, or another life changing situation that makes them homebound. This could be temporary, or for a longer term. Currently, this population represents 17% of the population served, and is growing. They are “invisible” as our homebound seniors once were, and equally as vulnerable to food insecurity. Meals on Wheels of Mercer County is also unique in that they provide a significant number of subsidies for those who cannot afford the cost of the meals. They subsidize heavily in the City of Trenton, although homebound individuals on a fixed income are all their neighbors.

COVID-19 has transformed the volunteer process for organizations like Meals on Wheels of Mercer County.  The onboarding process for volunteering has gone virtual, and COVID protocols are in place for meal delivery. The volunteer experience nurtures the body and soul - for participants and volunteers alike! For more information on volunteering, please email This email address is being protected from spambots.
