Council Establishes Standards for Remote or Semi-Remote Meetings of Ewing Council and Other Public Bodies

On October 13, 2020 the Ewing Township Council affirmed through Resolution #20R-178 that through the largest extent possible, Council and other Ewing public bodies will convene in a manner that allows the public to fully participate.

“To ensure continuity of government operations” and the ability of the public to participate in their government “while maintaining the necessary social distance to avoid the spread of COVID-19,”[1] the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs issued updated regulations for remote meetings.   See “New Emergency Regulations: Remote Public Meetings Held During a Declared Emergency” in the September 24th edition of their  Local Finance Notice for a full recounting of open public meeting requirements in the Covid era.

In response, Council resolved that it and other Ewing Township Public Boards will convene in a setting that allows the public to fully participate, whether fully in-person or via in-person and remote means.  Option One will be to employ a semi-remote process of both in-person and remote viewing and Option Two meetings will default to a fully remote process in the event of a declared emergency.   In-person participation will be allowed under certain circumstances when social distancing and capacity requirements can be met upon advance notice to the Municipal Clerk at least 24 hours in advance.
