Dine Out in March to Stamp Out Senior Hunger

Leave the cooking and dishes at home and DINE OUT in Ewing in March

March for Meals postcardDine Out to Stamp Out Senior Hunger in March during the 18th annual March for Meals, a month-long, nationwide celebration of Meals on Wheels and our senior neighbors who rely on the vital services to remain healthy and independent at home.

Ewing restaurateurs have answered the call to support Meals on Wheels of Mercer County while raising awareness of the plight of senior hunger in our local communities in the 2020 Dine Out to Stamp Out Senior Hunger event.  This is a significant fundraising event for Meals on Wheels in Mercer County, where a percentage of the proceeds from participating restaurants goes to helping them provide meals to the home bound residents of Mercer County who cannot afford to contribute to the cost of their meals.

“The services we provide are a lifeline for seniors of Mercer County and the need increases every year,” said Sasa Montano, CEO of Meals on Wheels of Mercer County.  ” Together, we can keep our senior neighbors well-nourished, feeling safer, and more connected to our community as they age.”

Meals on Wheels of Mercer County is a comprehensive nutrition program committed to providing nutritious meals, and related services, which are designed to promote the independence, dignity, health and well-being of our home bound participants. Founded in 1973, they served over 80,000 meals in 2019 to home bound individuals in our County.  Approximately 90% of those they serve are over the age of 60, with 84% of all participants needing a subsidy to cover the cost of their meals and 59% living alone.  Meals on Wheels of Mercer County currently serves close to 300 participants in the areas of Ewing, East Windsor, Hamilton, Hightstown, Lawrence, Princeton, Trenton and West Windsor - with 12% of those served living in Ewing Township. The Meals on Wheels of Mercer County office also calls Ewing home, as they are located in the Hollowbrook Community Center.
