Register to Vote Now for the Upcoming Primary Election on Tuesday, June 2nd

Need to Know NJ Primary Election Voter Updates

VoteReminder: New NJ voters hoping to cast a ballot in the upcoming primary elections have until May 12th to complete their voter registration.  Municipal Clerk Kim Macellaro would like to remind residents that the deadline for registering to vote in the June 2, 2020 New Jersey Primary Election is Tuesday, May 12, 2020.  Voter registration hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday at the Township Clerk’s Office located on the second floor of the municipal building, 2 Jake Garzio Drive.  To accommodate last minutes registrations, the Clerk’s office will hold a late-night registration on Tuesday, May 12th from 4:30 – 7 pm.   Registrants may also visit this website to download a voter registration form.  All forms must be received, and you must be registered at least 21 days in advance of an election to vote.

Eligibility Requirements

You must be a U.S. citizen to be eligible to vote and be at least 18 years old by Primary Election Day.  You must also have lived in Mercer County for 30 days before the election.  Residents serving a sentence, probation or parole because of a felony conviction are not eligible to vote.  Registration is permanent, and re-registration is only required for a change of name or residence.

About the Primary Election

The Primary is a party election and voters must be registered as Democrats or Republicans to participate.  A registered voter currently not affiliated with a political party may declare their party affiliation up to and including Primary Election day.  However, a registered voter who wishes to change their party affiliation must file a Political Party Affiliation Declaration Form 55 days before a Primary Election.  That deadline is April 8th.

Vote by Mail

Registered voters who prefer to vote by mail for any reason may apply for a Vote by Mail Ballot Application for the June Primary.  Applications for voting by mail are available at the Municipal Clerk’s Office or on this website on the Municipal Clerk’s page.

A voter may vote by mail by completing the Application for Vote by Mail Ballot and mailing the application to the County Clerk, with the application being received by the County Clerk at least 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3 p.m. the day before the election.   The County Clerk also cannot accept faxed or emailed copies of an Application for Vote by Mail Ballot, unless you are a Military or Overseas Voter, since an original signature is required.

Once you apply for a Mail-In Ballot, you will not be permitted to vote by machine at your polling place in the same election.

Vote by Mail Application Options

You must select the option of your choice from Box 1 in the Vote by Mail Application (English | Spanish) to indicate when you want to vote by mail in the future: either for all future elections or only for a specific election:

  • Primary (June)
  • Municipal
  • School
  • Fire
  • Special (with date noted)

If you choose "all future elections" mail-in ballots will be provided until you request that you no longer wish to be sent such a ballot OR following failure to vote for four successive general elections following the general election at which you last voted.
