2020 Data Privacy Day

Act to Protect Your Online Privacy on January 28th and every day

Do you know all that you need to about how the information you enter for your online accounts is being used?  Is it being collected and shared in ways that you are not aware of?  Data Privacy Day (January 28th) aims to inspire dialogue and empower individuals and companies to take action.

Data Privacy Day is part of an international campaign held annually on January 28th that promotes awareness of the importance of privacy.  It highlights easy ways to protect personal information and reminds organizations that privacy is good for business. This year, everyone is encouraged to “Own Their Privacy” by learning more about how to help protect the valuable data that is online. One simple thing you can do is to update your privacy settings by using a helpful tool created by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA).

As a Data Privacy Champion, Ewing Township has joined the global effort among government organizations and municipalities, corporations and nonprofits, the academic community and others to raise awareness about the importance of respecting privacy at home, at work, at school, and in the community.  As a Champion, Ewing Township recognizes and supports the principle that all organizations share the responsibility of being conscientious stewards of personal information.

Did you know that many Americans acknowledge that they are not always diligent about paying attention to privacy policies and terms of service and that 78% of adults in the United States say they understand very little or nothing about what the government and companies do with the data they collect?  63% of Americans also say they have very little or no understanding of the laws and regulations that are currently in place to protect their privacy.

We encourage you to check the following tips and links to learn how you can become a more conscientious steward of your personal information.  Stay tuned for privacy updates on our Facebook page.
