2019 Recycling Updates from the Mercer County Improvement Authority
The Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA) has published the curbside recycling schedule and special recycling events for 2019. Please take note for your records.
The MCIA will hold Household Hazardous Waste collection and Electronics Recycling events on March 30, June 29, and September 28 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Collection is at the Dempster Fire School at 350 Lawrence Station Road. These events are open to all Mercer County residents only and proof of residency is required. Check the MCIA flyer for additional details, such as materials accepted or call 609-278- 8086.
Two shredding events will be held in Lot 4 across from the County Administration Building at 640 South Broad Street in Trenton on Saturdays, February 23rd and November 2nd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents may bring a maximum of eight boxes and/or bags of paper - NO Household Chemicals - NO Commercial Businesses [2019 Flyer]. Again, these events are open to all Mercer County residents only and proof of residency is required. (Look for a notice about Ewing’s Shred Days to be published shortly.)
Recycling at the Curbside is conducted by the MCIA on alternate Tuesdays in Ewing. (2019 County-wide curbside schedule) All recyclables must be in official buckets and at the curb by 7:00 a.m. NO ITEMS IN PLASTIC BAGS WILL BE COLLECTED. For missed recycling collection call 609-278-8086. Or submit electronically at http://www.mcianj.org/content/119/137/default.aspx.
Recycling is single stream recycling: all recyclables can be mixed together. To help our recycling program run smoothly, it is important to put only the appropriate materials into your recycling containers. Please help ensure the future success of recycling by following your local recycling requirements.
PLASTIC BAGS ARE MAJOR CONTAMINANTS and should NEVER be mixed with any curbside recyclable materials as they will clog up processing equipment just like hair clogs up vacuum cleaners. Please be sure to recycle plastic shopping bags at your local supermarket and home improvement store such as Home Depot. Placing non-recyclable materials into the mix creates serious quality control issues and negatively affects the economics of recycling. Please help ensure the future success of our state’s recycling programs by following your local recycling requirements. To learn more about recycling, go to recycle.nj.gov.
Replacement buckets may be picked up at the Ewing Department of Public Works, Waste Drop Off Convenience Center, located at 136 Scotch Road. Please call first to ensure availability. (609- 882-3382). Buckets are also available to all Mercer County residents at Mercer County Connections, Route 33, Acme Shopping Center in Hamilton. Please call 609.890.9800 for bucket availability.
