Notification of Changes to the Bulk Waste Drop Off Site Procedures

New guidelines announced to begin March 1st

To save tax dollars and end abuses of Convenience Center privileges by non-residents and commercial entities, beginning on March 1, 2019, Ewing Township is moving to a more structured process for dropping off bulk waste at the Convenience Center on 136 Scotch Road.  Each Ewing address is now entitled to 12 NO FEE drop-off visits to the facility per year.

Requirements

Each household user who wishes to use the facility must obtain their own Bulk Drop-Off Validation Card from our Community Pass system.  This will require advance sign up (available beginning February 19, 2019) at the main office at the Ewing Senior and Community Center, 999 Lower Ferry Road during Office Hours.

Mon- Thurs 8:30 am - 9 pm | Fri 8:30 am - 5 pm | Sat & Sun 9 am - 5 pm

The ability to sign up at the Public Works Department at 136 Scotch Road is in the works and will be available shortly.  A photo ID will be required to complete your card registration.

To save some time, you may choose to register each household user in Community Pass online in advance.   However, an in-person visit to have your picture taken and receive your card is required to complete the registration.

Restrictions

Recycling CenterThe following restrictions are in effect for the Bulk Drop-Off Convenience Center.  No commercial vehicles or trailers will be admitted.

Acceptable residential waste includes large household waste and materials such as furniture, lamps, appliances, toilets and fixtures, boxes, wood debris, and windows with the glass removed.  Small amounts of sheetrock, wood and flooring are permissible.

Construction debris such as concrete, blacktop, roof shingles and other large quantities of building or construction materials are not permitted.  Waste generated by a commercial facility is not acceptable.

All households are restricted to 12 visits to the facility per year.  The validation cards may not be recharged for more visits and you cannot purchase more visits for your cards.   Card use is not transferrable and bulk waste generated from outside Ewing Township is not permitted.

Convenience Center privileges are limited to legal residents of Ewing Township only.  The following groups are excluded from the Convenience Center: commercial entities, County, State of Federal governments, and non-residents of the Township living in student dormitories and/or housing located on the campus of The College of New Jersey.

Reminders

We offer these reminders about managing Bulk Waste removal.  Our curbside trash service contractor, Solterra Recycling Solutions will still pick up three (3) bulk items on your regular trash collection day. You MUST seal any mattress or box spring in a plastic bag before placing it out with regular garbage for bulk collection or dropping off at the Convenience Center. This rule will help prevent the spread of bed bugs.  To ensure that larger items are picked up promptly, we recommend that you call Solterra to alert them at (609) 771-8005.

Do not place large electronics such as TVs, computers, monitors, laptops at the curb for pickup.  The Electronics Waste Management Act mandates that they be recycled.   The Electronics Recycling Center at the Scotch Road facility is unaffected by these changes and residents can also dispose of them at the MCIA's Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Electronics Recycling Events held periodically throughout the year.

The Bulk Waste Convenience Center on Scotch Road will reopen on March 1st with its regular hours of Th-F: 7:00am - 3:00pm and Sat: 7:00am - 2:30pm.  For additional information please refer to Executive Order No. 2 or call (609) 883-2900 x7647.
