About the Primary Election

The Primary is a party election, and voters must be registered as Democrats or Republicans to participate.  A registered voter currently not affiliated with a political party may declare their party affiliation up to and including Primary Election Day.  However, a registered voter who wishes to change their party affiliation must file a Political Party Affiliation Declaration Form 55 days before a Primary Election.  That deadline was April 8th.

Three Ways to Vote in New Jersey

In 2021, a law was passed permitting in-person early voting in New Jersey. All registered voters can now cast their ballot in person, using a voting machine, during a period prior to Election Day. You can choose to vote when it's most convenient for your schedule.

In-person early voting locations will be open Tuesday, May 26, through Sunday May 31, 2026.  Hours will be Friday and Saturday, 10AM - 8PM, and Sunday 10AM - 6PM.  No appointment is necessary.  Accommodations will be made for voters with disabilities.

A voter may vote by mail by completing the Application for Vote by Mail Ballot and mailing the application to the County Clerk, with the application being received by the County Clerk at least 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3 p.m. the day before the election.   The County Clerk also cannot accept faxed or emailed copies of an Application for Vote by Mail Ballot, unless you are a Military or Overseas Voter, since an original signature is required.

Once you apply for a Mail-In Ballot, you will not be permitted to vote by machine at your polling place in the same election.

Vote by Mail Application Options

You may choose to automatically receive Mail-in Ballots in future elections.  Select the first option to receive Mail-in Ballots for all future Elections.  Mail-in Ballots will then be provided until you request that you no longer be sent such a ballot or following failure to vote for four successive general elections following the general election at which you last voted.  Select the second option to choose to receive a Mail-in Ballot for only ONE of the following options for the current year: Primary, General, Municipal, School, Fire or Special.
