EV Charging Infrastructure

We're leading the charge towards a cleaner, greener future with our electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

If you have an electric vehicle, look for our 4 new charging stations now online at Ewing municipal locations!  One ChargePoint dual port level two charger is located at the Hollowbrook Community Center (in front of the pool), and two ChargePoint dual port level two chargers are located at the Municipal Building - one in the front lot on the lower level, and the other is in the rear lot on the upper level.  These conveniently work with the Charge Point app.

There is a Livingston Energy Charger by BTC dual port level two charging station at the Station 30 Fire Company at 1666 Pennington Rd. in the parking lot in the rear of the building.

Electric vehicle owners are encouraged to use these charging stations while they conduct business at the municipal building, enjoy the pool or a program at the Community Center, or visit our Construction Office to apply for a permit, or whether they've simply found us in an EV map while on the go.

“The installation of these sustainable EV charging stations at these convenient municipal locations takes Ewing one step further in its goal of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, and lowering our carbon footprint,” said Mayor Steinmann.   “By making these charging stations available at these first municipal locations, Ewing is making a positive contribution to the environment, while facilitating the transition to electric vehicles.”

Charging

To use the charging stations, download your chosen app on your phone from the Apple or Android stores. The ChargePoint or ViaLynk EV Charging Apps also work specifically with our chargers.  Sign up for an account by providing your personal information and login.  Electric vehicle owners will also be asked to enter a valid credit or debit card into the App to pay for the electricity. Once a valid payment method is entered, users will be instructed to hold their smartphones up to the charging station. When these steps are completed, the charger will unlock from the port and users can insert the plug into their vehicle. Charging costs $.30/kWh.  To encourage EV owners to move their vehicles promptly after they’re charged, there is a $3.00/hr idling fee (charged in $.05/minute increments).

Charging station etiquette is similar to traditional fuel pump etiquette. You get your charge and get out of the way.

Grant Funding

The chargers at the Municipal Building and the Hollowbrook Community Center were obtained through a grant from IT PAYS TO PLUG IN through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.  They were installed by Byran Electric and are ChargePoint branded chargers. The chargers are Level 2 chargers and are equipped with J1772 connectors providing up to 7.2KW of power each.
