Playground Dedication Ceremony Held Saturday, November 18

Release date: 11/21/2017

Mayor Bert Steinmann and Council dedicate the DiFrancesco Memorial at Special Needs Access Playground at the Ewing Senior and Community Center

Mayor Bert Steinmann and Members of Township Council dedicated the Raymond J. DiFrancesco Memorial Playground, a Special Needs Access Playground at the Ewing Senior and Community Center [ESCC] this past Saturday, November 18th.  Ray was a member of the Ewing Kiwanis and a lifelong Ewing Township resident.  He passed away last January and will be remembered for his dedication to the Kiwanian mission of serving the children of the world.  He and fellow members of the Kiwanis Club of Ewing worked tirelessly in cooperation with Ewing Township officials to raise monies for new Inclusive Play™ playground equipment in the play area behind the ESCC for children with disabilities.  Other major donors include Joseph Schmeltz, Santo V. Sorce and Gerald and Mary Spencer.

The playground equipment was installed as a Community Playground Build by the Ewing High School Key Club, The College of New Jersey's Circle "K" Club, the Kiwanis, the Ewing Recreation Department and Rec Board members after Ewing Township employees prepared the area for construction.  Township Community Affairs Director Ted Forst agreed children’s recreational resources are prized by Township residents and that the playground has been heavily used since its installation.  The Inclusive Play™ equipment allows children of all abilities to grow and play together by addressing accessibility, age and developmental appropriateness and sensory-stimulating activity.

The dedication, which marked the final phase of this project and the collaborative event by the Kiwanis, the Key Club, the College of New Jersey’s Circle K Club, and Township Board members and employees, will insure that the children of the area have a fun place to play for many years to come.
