Parkway Avenue Roadway Safety Design Study

11/29/2017
Parkway Avenue Roadway Safety Design Study

The New Jersey Department of Transportation, in collaboration with Mercer County, Ewing Township and the City of Trenton, will be conducting a study to identify safety improvements along Parkway Avenue from Scotch Road (CR 611) to Pennington Road (NJ 31).  The purpose of this studey is to identify and recommend improvements that will make Parkway Avenue a safer corridor for all roadway users.  Safety improvements are needed within this corridor due to a historically high crash rate, high speed, and proximity to key trip generators, including two schools, businesses, religious institutions and retail.  A wide range of proven safety countermeasure will be considered for recommendation.

Two public information meetings for the Parkway Avenue Roadway Safety Design Study  will be held on Monday December 11.

The first will be for Parkway Ave. residents and will run from 2 - 4 pm at the Ewing Senior and Community Center (ESCC), 999 Lower Ferry Road.  The second will be held for the general public at Ewing High School from 6pm - 8pm.  A project synopsis can be found here.

The project will review the entirety of Parkway Avenue from Pennington Road through to Upper Ferry for safety measures that include pedestrian and bicycle safety. Improvements to intersections are anticipated to work with recent economic development initiatives with the goal to enhance quality of life for all the Township's residents and businesses along this roadway.

For additional information, the Federal Highway Administration has also developed a Proven Safety Countermeasures website that highlights some of the considerations that a community can make to improve safety for all users of the roadway.  See  https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/provencountermeasures/
